Vidya is a senior exponent of the distinguished style of the famous Late Sri. K. P. Kittappa Pillai, who was a direct descendant of the codifiers of traditional Bharatanatyam at the Royal Court of Thanjavur. Along with traditional dance she has also learned the music of Bharatanatyam and the art of nattuvangam under the personal guidance of Guru Kittappa Pillai. She was educated in the singing of padams and in the nuances of abhinaya of Late Smt. Lakshmi Knight (daughter and disciple of the legendary Smt. T.
