NISHANTH CHANDRAN

Violinist Nishanth Chandran is proficient in Carnatic Music. He gave his first public concert at the age of 9 and has since then given over 500 concerts all over India and in the United States. A disciple of the renowned violinist A. Kanyakumari, Nishanth is an “A” grade artist of the All India Radio (AIR). He has accompanied some of the leading artists in the field such as Saxaphone Shri. Kadri Gopalnath, Shri. T. V. Gopalakrishnan and so on. Apart from being an accompanist, he has also performed as a solo artist. He has several accolades to his name, including the best violinist award from the Music Academy, Chennai and the best violinist award from Shri. Krishna Gana Sabha. Nishanth received the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship from the Government of India at the age of 9. In the year 2001, he won the AIR first prize in Instrumental Music (violin) at the National level. Nishanth is known for his outstanding tonal quality and control over the instrument. The great music critic Subbudu once remarked “The knowledge of swaraprasthara technique he revealed was hard to describe… His bowing is perfect, with not a single harsh phrasing.“ Nishanth is the descendant of Thillaisthanam Rama Iyengar (the direct disciple of Saint Thyagaraja) and is a classically trained vocalist under Shri P. S. Narayanaswamy. At present, Nishanth Chandran is doing his doctoral studies in Computer Science at UCLA.

In his Utsav 2007 performance, Nishanth Chandran will be accompanied by Karthik Gopalratnam on the mridangam.
