Jo Taira skyrocketed to the top of the highly developed and competitive world of puppet theatre in Japan. Born in Hokkaido in 1981, Jo was the youngest artist ever to win the top prize at the prestigious National Puppet Contest. With a style somewhat unconventional in the formal world of Japanese puppetry, Jo engages the imagination of his audience by using his whole body, emotional expression, toys, dolls, and oftentimes everyday-household objects. In a series of short, sometimes wordless, vignettes selected especially for his Festival visit, Jo will take young audiences on a colorful, enchanting journey.
“…a dream world for children, but it also fascinates adults.”
